Locust Grove is Henry County’s smallest municipality and conveniently located off Interstate 75. Historically home to large rural farms, Locust Grove is quickly developing with new residential projects and industrial space.
Locust Grove High School is located at the intersection of Peeksville Road and South Ola Road in southeast Henry County. Other schools in the cluster include Locust Grove Elementary, Unity Grove Elementary, and Locust Grove Middle.
The most notable transportation project in the area is a new Interstate 75 interchange at Bethlehem Road. The new interchange, if built, would provide better travel options for truck drivers and residents by diverting up to fifty percent of the commercial vehicle traffic off highway 155 and up to twenty percent of the overall traffic off Bill Gardner Parkway. The city council has submitted an application for the project to the Atlanta Regional Commission for consideration to receive federal transportation funding.
A second notable project plans to add a southbound auxiliary lane on Georgia 42 in downtown Locust Grove. The lane will be built between Bill Gardner Parkway and Peeksville Road to help alleviate evening congestion and bottlenecks. Construction is budgeted in FY 2023.
Completed SPLOST IV projects in Locust Grove include the fire station and Locust Grove police headquarters in downtown, an intersection improvement at Old Jackson Road and South Bethany, paving Harris Drive, and kitchen renovations at the Locust Grove senior center.
Proposed SPLOST V projects include a roundabout at Georgia 42 and Bill Gardner Parkway, and paving Burg Road and Peeksville Road. Voters will decide in November whether to renew or end the local sales tax.
