Henry County commissioners held their regular meeting on Tuesday, August 3. During the meeting, they approved the resurfacing of Jonesboro Road. The project extends between the Clayton County line and Mt. Olive Road.

Henry County accepted bids for the project before June 25. Three companies responded to the proposal.

Jonesboro Road resurfacing

Henry County awarded the low bid to CW Matthews Contracting Co., Inc. of Marietta, GA. The company submitted a bid worth $2,426,000. The project measures 4.7 miles in length.

Henry County sought federal funds to help pay for the project in late 2019. Later, the project was selected for assistance in 2020. The federal dollars cover eighty percent of project costs. The county DOT budget will account for the remaining twenty percent.

The project restricts any lane closures to outside the hours of 5:30–9:00 am. In addition, no lane closures are allowed Monday through Friday from 4 to 6 pm between Mt. Olive Road and Chambers Road.

The contractor has 135 calendar days to complete the project. The time starts following the notice to proceed.

Mill Road widening

Secondly, the county awarded a design contract for the widening of Mill Road. The widening extends from Jonesboro Road to the flea market.

Kennedy Engineering & Associates of Atlanta, GA submitted the low bid worth $170,130.00. SPLOST V funds will cover the cost of design work.

Additionally, Henry County included the project on its T-SPLOST project list. If the November referendum passes, then T-SPLOST will contribute $5 million dollars towards the project.

Jodeco Road median opening

Finally, Henry County is accepting bids to add a new median opening along Jodeco Road. The new left-hand turn lane will be between Tunis Drive and Campground Road. The county is accepting bids through August 11.

The turn lane will facilitate movement into the upcoming Jodeco Road medical office space. The county announced the project earlier this year. When complete, plans call for a total of 88,000 square feet of office space in four buildings.
