Commissioners approved a modification of zoning conditions on May 19 that will pave the way for a new interior climate-controlled self-storage business along Jonesboro Road. The business will be located in lot 10 at the under-construction park and ride lot.

The 24.07 +/- acre property is located at the intersection of Jonesboro Road and Mt. Carmel Road in district III. The property was rezoned in January 2018 from RA (residential agricultural) to C-3 (highway commercial) with a condition that C-3 uses were restricted to hotels only.

SK Property Holdings II, LLC of McDonough, GA requested the modification of zoning conditions to allow for the new business on the property. Planning staff recommended and the board approved zoning conditions that require the self-storage facility to mirror Class A commercial office space and be located a minimum of 245′ from the right of way of Jonesboro Road.

The self-storage business will also be required to install fencing at least eight feet in height and constructed of brick or stone. The new business will occupy 2.64 acres on the site.

In addition, all C-3 uses are now allowed on the site except the following: boat sales, RV parks and campgrounds, auto sales, extended stay hotels, and uses prohibited within the highway corridor overlay district.
