The proposed Fiscal Year 2021 budget is now available for public review ahead of next week’s public hearings and the board considering its adoption. FY 2021 begins on July 1, 2020.
Public hearings will be held virtually on Tuesday, May 19, first at 9 am followed by a second meeting at 6:30 pm. Information on how to participate may be found on the Agendas page of the county website.
Residents are required to email the county clerk by Monday, May 18, at 5 pm if they would like to speak during the budget hearings. Instructions are available here.
In FY 2020, the county’s amended general fund equals $168.2 million. The proposed FY 2021 general fund equals $170.2 million.
Highlights from the proposed FY 2021 general fund are:
- Revenues include a projected $97.5 million in property tax collections, up from $93.4 million in FY 2020 and $89 million in FY 2019. No change in the millage rate is proposed.
- Sales & use tax collections are projected to decrease 12.9% in FY 2021, from $49 million to $42.8 million.
- Property tax collections and sales & use tax collections represent 82.45% of operating revenues.
- Expenditures include $88.8 million for public safety, representing 52.18% of county expenditures.
- Judicial system expenditures are proposed to increase 7% to $18.9 million, in part to hire new staff to support a fourth Superior Court judgeship.
- A hiring freeze has been implemented for new and vacant positions in response to COVID-19, excluding public safety positions.
- Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) and longevity increases for employees are budgeted to start mid-year on January 1, 2021.
