The upcoming election in Georgia has been postponed from May 19 to June 9 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Ballot items include the presidential preference primary (originally postponed from March), general primary, and non-partisan general election.

Early voting will begin May 18. The delay allows counties more time to prepare contingency plans based on venue and staff availability, recruit additional poll workers, and procure cleaning supplies ahead of the start of early voting.

All Georgia active registered voters were mailed an application to request an absentee ballot last week. The application remains valid for the postponed election and voters can submit their applications now if they so choose. Ballots will be mailed beginning later this month.

Local ballot questions include contested primaries in both parties for Henry County Sheriff, a three-way Democratic Party primary for county commission district II, and contested elections for the board of education. Visit our Sample Ballot webpage for a look at who’s on the ballot.
