Henry County commissioners approved the purchase of six new ambulances at their April 7 meeting. The new vehicles require a 12–13 month build timeline and should arrive in summer 2021.

The vehicles will be 2020 Braun Liberty ambulances built on 2020 RAM 4500 Ambulance Chassis. The vehicles were purchased through a national purchasing contract at a quoted price of $1,359,240.

The board’s approval also included equipment purchases for the new units for a total purchase price of $1,503,545. The purchase will be funded through capital project funding.

The board is expected to consider approving the capital project funding in May. Because of the year-long build time to receive the new ambulances, staff recommended the board proceed forward with the purchase now. Payment is due upon delivery of the vehicles.

Henry County last purchased new ambulances in September 2017 receiving five new vehicles in summer 2018. The county implemented a first-of-its-kind for Henry County fleet replacement program in 2019 to better manage the replacement and upgrading of county vehicles. The SPLOST V program includes $14.5 million towards the program.

In September 2019, the board approved the purchase of seventy new police cars — fifty for Henry County Police and twenty for Henry County Sheriff’s Office — and seven command vehicles for the fire department. The purchase was financed through an equipment lease purchase not to exceed $4.15 million.
