Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger announced Tuesday, March 24, that elections staff will mail an absentee ballot application for the May 19 primary to all registered active voters across the state. The applications will be mailed starting next week.
The decision to mail applications follows the postponement of the presidential preference primary among concerns about the Coronavirus pandemic. With uncertainty surrounding how long the pandemic will result in socially distant guidelines, the state is making preparations now to encourage absentee voting in the May primary.
The May 19 ballot includes the presidential preference primary, general primary, and non-partisan general election. For voters that have already participated in the presidential primary prior to the suspension of early voting, their ballot will contain only the other positions. For voters that have not yet participated in an election this year, their ballot will include both the presidential primary and other positions.
