The Macon-Bibb County government has worked with the Georgia Department of Transportation to partner and secure state funding to assist in widening Bass Road. The project will widen the existing two-lane road to four lanes for approximately 1.1 miles, install a twenty foot raised median, and replace two bridges.
The Georgia DOT board approved adding the project to the state work program at their December meeting. At the center of the project is I-75 exit 172.
Macon-Bibb County will lead the design phase starting in 2020. The estimated cost of $2,092,635 will later be reimbursed by GDOT. The local government will then fund right of way acquisition at a cost of $5,387,700 in 2024.
Finally, the state will fund and let construction in 2026. Construction and utility relocation costs equal $28,342,802.
Macon-Bibb County will utilize SPLOST funding for their share of the project. By partnering with the state, the local government will receive $5.65 in state funding for every local dollar invested.
