After over thirty years in business, the Waffle House at 1148 Highway 20/81 West has closed the week before the McDonough city council is scheduled to consider voting on an annexation request for the property. If approved, ForCAST Real Estate Development will demolish the structure and redevelop the property with a new Valvoline Oil Change.

The McDonough city council will consider the annexation request during its meeting on Monday, October 21, at 6 pm. Meetings are held at city hall on Keys Ferry Street.

The annexation request is the second of two parts to redevelop the northeast corner of I-75 exit 218. The city council approved annexing the former Ruby Tuesday restaurant in August.

Once demolished, the Ruby Tuesday site will be rebuilt into a fast food building with drive-thru and multi-tenant commercial structure. Planned tenants include Dunkin Donuts, My Eyelab, and a to-be-announced fast casual restaurant.

City staff have referenced the RaceTrac service station opened late last year and rebuilt Taco Bell as the start of redevelopment in the area. Rock n Roll Sushi McDonough opens soon in the former Pizza Hut restaurant and it was shared at the last council meeting that Dairy Queen will be demolished to make way for a new Wendy’s.
