A much-anticipated big box retailer, Costco, will open its first traditional location within south metro Atlanta later this month; however, despite high hopes from many Henry County residents, the new store is in Coweta County. The 156,805 square foot location is scheduled to open on August 22 located off State Route 34 between Newnan and Peachtree City.

Costco operates a large chain of membership-only warehouse clubs offering a variety of items. Sharpsburg will be the company’s tenth location within metro Atlanta, not including a business center offering limited selection in Morrow.

Adjacent to Costco, a new senior living apartment complex was approved for construction in June 2019. The 13.5 acre property will total 162 units, with 90 independent units for those age 55 and older, 40 assisted living units and 32 memory care units.

Costco is the largest tenant within the Fischer Crossing development. Others include NCG Cinema open since 2011, an 85,000 square foot Kaiser Permanente medical office building under construction, and several outparcels. A popular restaurant in McDonough, Jim ‘N’ Nick’s Bar-B-Q, is planning their tenth metro Atlanta location within the development.

Coweta County BOC approves modifications for southwest corner to develop

ForCAST Real Estate Development of Atlanta, GA received approval last week to update zoning conditions on 29 acres zoned commercial at the southwest corner of SR 34 and Fischer Road. Readers may recognize ForCAST Real Estate as the developer behind the Ruby Tuesday redevelopment in McDonough.

The 29 acre site, originally zoned for commercial development in 2006, plans nine buildings totaling 150,000 square feet. The concept site plan depicts a 48,000 square foot medical office building, four restaurants, retail businesses, and a gas station. No information was shared at the commissioners’ meeting about possible tenants.
